Porcelain Veneers by Dr. Joseph Goodman
Veneers are very thin porcelain laminates (as thin as 0.3 mm), which are securely attached via special dental adhesives only to the front part of your teeth. This eliminates any heavy cutting of the front teeth, which is more desirable. Veneers can change an entire smile.
Porcelain laminate veneers are highly aesthetic and can mask any imperfections of your natural teeth such as gaps, stains, chips, and even slanted or rotated teeth. Porcelain veneers allow us to alter the tooth position, shape, size, and color of your teeth. They are truly a remarkable tool to restore your smile.
Composite veneers, made from composite materials, offer a more affordable and quicker application process compared to porcelain veneers.
Damaged Teeth:
If you have cracked or chipped your teeth, porcelain veneers may be right for you. Not only can veneers restore your smile cosmetically but they also play a part in protecting damaged teeth. The last thing you want is for the nerve of your teeth to be exposed, causing chronic pain. Veneers can also help protect sensitive teeth after damage. As one of the most trusted porcelain veneer dentists in Los Angeles, we can help restore and preserve your smile. For molar teeth, dental crowns are often recommended for their restorative purposes, contrasting with veneers which are primarily used for cosmetic enhancements on front teeth.
Teeth Discoloration:
If you have stained teeth from smoking or drinking coffee, soda, or wine, porcelain veneers may be the right option. Dental porcelain is used to create these veneers, which can effectively cover stains and discoloration. If your teeth do not respond to teeth whitening and the enamel erosion is leaving your teeth stained, make an appointment with Dr. Goodman to see how he can fit you with the best porcelain veneers in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills.

Slanted or Rotated Teeth:
Veneers may be the best option if you have minor misalignments, such as slanted or rotated teeth. The veneers will bond to the front surfaces of your teeth to create an even and perfectly balanced smile. This can also work for closing gaps between your teeth. Veneers not only improve the alignment of teeth but also enhance overall facial aesthetics. Give us a call today to find the ideal fix for minor imperfections.
Our Porcelain Veneers Procedure:
The procedure is simple and usually painless, and can be completed in 2 visits, depending on the type of veneers that best fit your aesthetic goals. Ultra thin porcelain veneers are an excellent option for restoring worn teeth and enhancing cosmetic appearance due to their durability, natural look, and minimally invasive nature. The porcelain veneers procedure with Dr. Goodman will include:
-
Creating an impression of the teeth which will need porcelain veneers
-
Designing individual veneers to fit your teeth with the outward shape and color desired
-
Bonding your permanent veneers to your teeth with a durable dental adhesive agent
It is crucial to polish and clean the surrounding teeth to ensure a cohesive and natural look. Consulting a qualified dental professional is essential to assess your individual needs and ensure proper treatment.
During the process you may have temporary veneers applied or wait 7-10 days for the custom veneers to arrive. Local numbing agents will be used for your complete comfort. If you prefer to be asleep for the procedure, we also offer that option under MD supervision. (Full dental sedation)

Virtually Painless Procedure
The procedure to get porcelain veneers in Los Angeles is generally not painful. During the preparation of veneers, Dr. Goodman can apply a local anesthetic to ease any discomfort. But his gentle hand and considerable skills minimize discomfort during the process. Full sedation (deep sleep) with a MD is also available for your comfort. Dr. Goodman’s approach to dental care ensures a comfortable and patient-centered experience.
Long-Lasting Results
Veneers are permanent, secure, and last 10 to 15 years. Investing in a better smile makes the porcelain veneers price a small one over the long term. With expertly applied veneers, you can floss individually between each tooth and eat normal food. Maintaining good oral hygiene, including flossing and regular check-ups, is essential for the longevity and durability of your veneers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are porcelain veneers permanent?
Yes, porcelain veneers are secure and permanent, lasting 10 to 15 years. You will be able to floss individually between teeth and eat normal food. They can even last longer. Ask us for more details please.
Do porcelain veneers look like natural teeth?
When applied by a skilled cosmetic dentistry team—like Dr. Goodman and his master lab technician—veneers can look remarkably natural. Dr. Goodman custom designs and handcrafts each veneer to create beautifully enhanced teeth. He meticulously evaluates the size, shape, color, and luster of each veneer and applies them with a skilled hand to achieve exceptional results. They key is translucency, not opaque white and thick looking veneers.
Will porcelain veneers change the way I talk?
Veneers that are expertly shaped, sized, and placed generally do not affect speech patterns. It takes a few days to adjust to new veneers, but they should not impact the way you speak. After 1-2 weeks the veneers will likely feel completely natural in your mouth.
Will I have permanent tooth sensitivity with veneers?
No, your teeth should not be more sensitive with veneers. You may notice some sensitivity to hot and cold in the first few days or even weeks after the procedure, but this fades quickly for most patients.
Are veneers a good alternative to braces?
For some people, veneers may be a suitable alternative to braces. Veneers can help mask mild to moderate misalignment, gaps, and overcrowding. Ask Dr. Goodman during your consultation if veneers may be an alternative to braces or Invisalign®. Sometimes a combination of Invisalign and veneers can be optimal.
How much do veneers cost?
Veneers from Dr. Goodman are custom designed, so price can vary widely from one person to the next. The final cost will depend on how many veneers you need, which type you choose, and pre-existing teeth damage. Dr. Goodman will discuss your cosmetic goals and design a customized treatment plan just for you. We also offer financing.
When it comes to the porcelain veneers price, quality is everything. Using a “discount dentist” often leads to poor results. Your smile is one of the first features people notice, and veneers are an investment in yourself. Using a skilled cosmetic dentist with an artistic eye like Dr. Goodman can make a tremendous difference in your results.
“If porcelain veneers look like the most beautiful porcelain veneers, they are a failure. If any person can tell a veneer from a natural tooth, it is a failure.”
– Dr. Joseph Goodman, DDS, DMD

What is a Porcelain Veneer?
Veneers are very thin porcelain laminates (as thin as 0.3 mm), which are securely attached via special dental adhesives only to the front part of your teeth. This eliminates any heavy cutting of the front teeth, which is more desirable. Veneers can change an entire smile.
Porcelain laminate veneers are highly aesthetic and can mask any imperfections of your natural teeth such as gaps, stains, chips, and even slanted or rotated teeth. They require a minimal amount of tooth reduction (approximately 0.3 to 0.8 mm) and are, therefore, a more conservative restoration than crowns (caps). Porcelain veneers allow us to alter the tooth position, shape, size, and color of your teeth. They are truly a remarkable tool to restore your smile. Porcelain veneers mimic the appearance of natural tooth enamel, enhancing the aesthetic quality of a natural-looking smile.
Veneers enable cosmetic dentists to straighten and even out your teeth within two weeks instead of waiting two years with conventional braces—it’s why they are often referred to as “instant orthodontics.” Porcelain veneers are a revolution in modern dentistry!
Lumineers™ or No-preparation Veneers
“Respect the tooth” is one of Dr. Goodman’s “10 RULES of Cosmetic Dentistry.” Dr. Goodman started using Lumineers™ in 1999, long before marketing efforts made them very popular. These veneers are made from a special porcelain material, which allows the cosmetic dentist to place these veneers with little or no preparation. The tooth is virtually untouched in some cases.
It does not necessitate the use of a local anesthetic, either. The laboratory time required to fabricate a porcelain laminate veneer is approximately two weeks or less.
It is typically not necessary to fabricate any type of temporary restoration because the teeth are left untouched or, in some cases, only minimally prepared. Composite veneers, on the other hand, require minimal tooth enamel removal, making them a more affordable option compared to porcelain veneers.
No-preparation veneers are very popular but can only be done in some instances where existing conditions allow for such treatment.
A plethora of knowledge, art, craftsmanship, and creativity are involved in creating such beautiful smiles.

NO Preparation Veneers – No Cutting, no Shaving, no Numbing : Lumineers
No-preparation type veneers, also known as Lumineers. Teeth are not cut or cut minimally and veneers are placed on top of your existing teeth. The “no preparation” (no cutting) veneers such as Lumineers™ are not suitable for everyone. Only an expert in dental veneers knows the limitations and indications to guarantee the most beautiful and aesthetic outcome. In general, teeth that are already too large and protruded to begin with are not good candidates for no-prep veneers because the teeth will appear as “too much” (i.e., a toothy smile). Smaller teeth—and particularly inclined teeth—are better suited to no-prep veneers. Please contact us to discuss your case.
Full-Preparation Veneers
Traditional full-prep veneers usually require 0.7 -1 mm of reduction of the front tooth surface. It is done when teeth are too big and large, and a smaller smile is desired.
Minimal-Preparation Veneers
Minimal-preparation veneers were perfected by Dr. Goodman and require minimal preparation of your teeth. They are ideal when a patient has smaller teeth, inclined teeth, or short teeth and desires a fuller smile. This conservative approach using a very minimal-preparation technique can achieve beautiful and natural results. These veneers are also referred to as “contact lens veneers” because of their extremely thin nature. Skillful application of minimal-prep veneers requires perfect harmony between the dentist and his master laboratory technician.
Maintaining the natural tooth structure is crucial to prevent decay, especially when using minimal-preparation techniques.
Dr. Goodman is experienced with all three types of veneers: He will advise you on the best option for your situation and which technique will help you achieve the best results.

Nobody should be able to distinguish veneers from natural teeth.

BAD veneer Cases Done in Another Dental Office
This case showcases several “sins” against Dr. Goodman’s “10 Commandments of Cosmetic Dentistry.” Too thick, too heavy looking, too opaque, too long, too square, too bulky, and too masculine.
Basically, everything went wrong! If you ever see a friend or family member walking around like this, tell them. Do not allow them to be ridiculed by fake-looking teeth and send them our way today!
The NO-NO Veneer look, the “Chiclets look” or “Piano keyboard look”
Actress Hillary Duff and fake-looking porcelain veneers
Actor Tom Cruise and square-looking front veneers
Notice a common mistake with the veneers in these pictures: The “Chiclets look” with veneers too big, too square, and too masculine. Like the keyboard of a piano. This is unacceptable. The shade is acceptable, but they appear too opaque, with no translucency and no details. The size of these veneers is certainly inappropriate for the patient’s face and age. The shape is off; they need to be more rounded, softer, and more “imperfect” to make them look like natural teeth. Only one shade of white was used. In our office, Dr. Goodman blends in several shades of white to make the teeth as natural and real looking as possible.
The name “Chiclets” or “Chiclet teeth” comes from the chewing gum seen in the picture. It refers to teeth that are too large and too straight, like the keys of a piano. Veneers must never look like this, as it will be a fast giveaway.
This means they look fake – they look too perfect like denture teeth with all teeth in the same size and shape. Very undesirable.
The worst of the worst smile makeovers (still think all dentists are alike?)
The cardinal sin, violations of all of Dr Goodman’s “10 Commandments” in one “smile makeover.” Basically, everything went wrong. In addition, the gums are inflamed, bleed upon touching, and the veneers are leaking and attracting plaque due to the rough surface and lousy polish. In addition, the patient was in pain: TMJ pain and overall pain with chewing.
Good dentistry is not always noticed. Bad dentistry is.

The Perfect Veneer Looks
The secret to a perfect smile often involves placing handcrafted porcelain veneers onto your existing teeth. The secret of beautiful veneers lies in the detail; thus, I would like to spend some time explaining what makes our veneers different and exceptional.
Understanding the different types of veneer materials, such as porcelain and composite resin, is crucial for achieving aesthetic appeal and durability.
A veneer is a thin laminate, which is permanently and securely bonded to the tooth. It helps mask stains, uneven teeth, small or large teeth, crooked teeth, gaps, and spaces by covering all these imperfections to create a perfect-looking smile. This can all be accomplished within one week or less!
Translucency
The translucency of an object refers to how light is able to penetrate through it; it is the opposite of opaque. Translucent veneers are desired because they mimic the natural tooth, a very translucent enamel, which is the natural tooth surface. Here is a good example of a translucent veneer versus an opaque-looking veneer:
Natural translucency in a porcelain veneer allows the underlying shade of the tooth to come through, giving it a much more natural appearance. It has nothing to do with the shade or brightness. Any shade can be made translucent or opaque.
This case is a more opaque and thus “heavy” looking veneer. It is less desirable and less natural looking.
The Medium-White Shade and Smile Makeover

The Super White Smile Makeover
Some patients demand the extra-white, beyond-the-shade-guide white. Here you are. Increase of her bite, her jaw and TMJ have improved dramatically.
The Instant Orthodontic Smile Makeover (Veneers instead of Braces)
Uneven teeth, crowded teeth, overlapping teeth and misaligned teeth can be fixed with braces, Invisalign, and in some cases with porcelain veneers.

Dr. Goodman’s Golden Proportion:
Cosmetic dentists typically follow the “golden proportion” rule to determine the proper length of the front teeth. But it is not a “one formula fits all” solution, and it shouldn’t be applied to every case. Ironically, in some cases the golden proportion rule can lead to teeth that appear out of proportion. The dentist must evaluate every case individually and make sure the overall smile looks great when viewed from a distance. The relationship between width and length of the central incisor is approximately 1:1.6.
Creating a harmonious proportion with the front incisors is critical to creating a beautiful smile. But the golden proportion rule must not be over-applied, as it often leads to a very rigid and unnaturally even-looking smile.
The Incisal Tip:
One of the most critical aspects of cosmetic dentistry is the incisal edge or tip. The reason this is so critical is because it is often done incorrectly. Too flat, perfect straight lines, and acute angles at the incisal area are undesirable and unaesthetic. It is most important to give character to this important feature of the veneer.
Imperfections:
Natural teeth do not look like Chiclets. Teeth that are too straight, too even, too long, and too narrow are not desirable in cosmetic dentistry. Small imperfections create a more natural look and can make veneers look exceptional.
Miracles in Dentistry with Cosmetic Dentistry:
Tooth damage or loss from accidents can be devastating. We were able to rebuild this patient’s missing teeth with implants and cosmetic dentistry. Today, she receives as many compliments about her smile as she did before her accident. Dr. Goodman and his team were able to achieve these incredible results using the latest, most advanced tools and technology in implant and cosmetic dentistry.
The No-Prep Veneer
No preparation of her teeth was required. Patient is very happy with her new smile.
You Only Get One Chance to Make a First Impression
First impressions are powerful! In a matter of seconds, we draw instantaneous and unconscious conclusions about someone when we meet them for the first time. The information upon which we base these conclusions is gathered in a flash by all our senses.
And these opinions are quite resistant to change.
Imagine that you’re greeting a visitor in the lobby of your office building. As you introduce yourself, your eyes take in hundreds of visual cues about their appearance, your ears process the tone and pitch of their voice, you make physical contact through a handshake, and you even pick up their “scent.” By the time you have finished saying your name, you have already formed some firm opinions.
As the old saying goes, “you only get one chance to make a first impression,” so make the most of it! Whether it’s a job interview, a meeting with a new customer, or a blind date, you need to put your best foot forward. Here are some suggestions:
Smiling may be the most important thing you can do when you first encounter a new person. Our ability to form strong first impressions evolved as a survival mechanism, so we are unconsciously alert for signs that tell us whether someone is “safe” and friendly. Smiling sends a signal that you are open and approachable. We seldom trust people who do not smile.
